JOINING FORCES TO BUY AND TRAIN BETTER HORSES
Most years, we invest in a number of high quality, well conformed foals or yearlings at the leading bloodstock sales in England, Ireland or France. Decisions are made against a well-defined specification in close consultation with our trainers and network of highly regarded agents. We put up the capital and take the financial risk before partnering out the horses with friends and co-owners. Do consider joining forces with us.

We do not run large syndicates. Some of our horses are in sole, joint or quarter-share ownerships, while others have between five and ten owners. Feel free to discuss your requirements with Jon Hughes, who will willingly provide more detailed information on the shares that are currently available.
We’re delighted to be offering 10% shares in a beautifully bred yearling who went into training with Karl Burke as a 2yo and is expected to run in the autumn of 2024. Will he be our next El Caballo? On his breeding he certainly looks the part, and is a big, strong, imposing youngster with a lovely, mature and relaxed temperament.
The sire, Invincible Army, by the hugely successful sprinter Invincible Spirit, was a multiple Group winner himself who excelled at 6f. The dam, Vitoria, cost 120,000gns and is by the top Australian sprinter and champion sire Exceed And Excel, whose own sire was the great Danehill. She is a half-sister to the smart Ghyraan, who was owned by Hamdan Al Maktoum and won twice over 10f in France as a 2yo. Vitoria herself won 3x, gained black type and over £220,000 in prize-money as well as being placed 6x. Her OR was 95. She has already produced winners in OR 99 rated Vitello and OR 93 rated Thunder Legend. It is a strong dam line that also includes 8x winning Plum Pudding who was a really hardy type for Richard Hannon, with an OR of 109. He raced 49x, winning over 7f to 1m at 3 to 5 years of age.
This is very much a case of a “speed on speed” pedigree and it will be fascinating in 2024 to find out the precise trip for our horse. He looks an exciting prospect.
Each 10% share costs £6,500 + VAT (which will be returned on VAT registration) and then £280 per month for training and keep fees from November 2023.

HORSES IN TRAINING
At any one time we usually have around ten horses in training and a similar number of young stock coming through. Many of our owners like to be with a range of trainers in a variety of locations, and ours are in the West Country, Cheshire, the Cotswolds and the Yorkshire Dales.
DUKE OF LUCKLEY
Bought in Ireland and looked after in Tipperary by PJ Colville, who used to be Assistant Trainer to Aidan O’Brien. Rapidly improving, already won 3x, more to come.
FORTUNA LIGNA
A beautifully athletic, classy, well-bred mare. Secured black type at Cheltenham. Already won 2x and excels in 3m+ mares’ handicap hurdles.
LUTTRELL LAD
Well above average when winning a bumper on his 2nd start. A most genuine NH and Flat horse over middle distances. Won £60k+. Now goes chasing.
MOZZARO
Very well bred, from an Aga Khan family. We thought he’d be an early type but all he did was grow. Now won x3 chases. Ready to go again in 2024/25.
INVITORIO (IRE)
Beautifully bred, with the winning combination of “speed on speed” from sire and dam. Lots of winners down the pedigree. Will he be El Caballo 2 in 2025?
L'AIR DU LARGE
Bought privately in France. By the top-class sire No Risk At All. Close relative Kel Du Large won the Cheltenham Listed Bumper as a 4yo. Will he do the same?
PECKFORTON HILLS
A knock-out on looks, pedigree and conformation. Bought at Goffs Foal Sale and has impressed from day one. A most exciting NH prospect with so much scope.
MARES, FOALS & YOUNGSTERS
Our greatest successes have come from buying unraced foals and yearlings and then bringing them along properly and patiently. Giving them time to develop at their own pace. It was inevitable that co-owning mares and breeding from them would become part of the dream. And what a huge pleasure it is. We now have three Flat mares with John and Kirsty Weymes in Wensleydale and actively support Stefan Hibbett and Pat Horne in their NH breeding partnership at Galloway Stud in Woburn.
VOLITION (IRE)
We recently acquired this beautiful grey mare, by the outstanding broodmare sire Dark Angel. She was a 300,000gns yearling. Will visit El Caballo in 2025.
MAYFAIR ROCK
A very well-bred speed machine, and as tough as teak. We had high hopes for her but, alas, injury triggered retirement. Has a filly and two colts on the ground.
SCENTED LILY
Superbly bred by top broodmare sire Presenting, from the Best Mate family. Won over 3m+. In foal to Getaway. A breeding syndicate led by friends.
GETAWAY 3YO
Scented Lily won for us as a staying hurdler. She is from the Best Mate family. We love her first foal, by Getaway. All crossed for the future.
ULYSSES FOAL
Dark Angel is a terrific broodmare sire and stallion Ulysses is already excelling as well. Volition’s progeny are OR 90+ rated. Looking good!
JACK HOBBS YEARLING
By a superb sire who won over £4m, the Dubai Sheema Classic and Irish Derby. An excellent time to own a filly with stamina. Eligible for GBB bonuses.
GOLDEN HORN FOAL
An absolutely cracking foal from the UK’s top dual-purpose sire. Big, sturdy, superbly put together. Couldn’t be happier with him. Very exciting.

Bought in France, by a red-hot stallion out of a Martaline mare. Dual Punchestown hero Fastorslow is closely related. Exciting.
